Past Phoenix Events

Chandler, Arizona 10/05

Dry and hot coming across the desert from California to Phoenix. One wonders how do people live in such an inhospitable climate. Wending our way through the web of expressways looking for Chandler, our next Tara Blessing event. Parvati Forrest had titillated us with descriptions of the house where the weekend was to be held but we were still amazed with the wonder of Bob and Jewel’s home.

Entering a gated community we crossed over a little bridge to a small island. There were waterfalls and fountains singing in all directions and a sprawling home covered the grounds complete with magnificent swimming pool, tennis court and beauty wherever you looked.

We were shown to our own little apartment and even Beloved Elephant was able to rest under a high pitched garage roof.

The Taras were flying in from all over to stay in the many bedrooms as Parvati and Jewel created a wonderful Tara Shrine out of the “conference room”. Bob was off on a business trip, it was all girls (except for the little boy baby that was in Jewel’s 8 1/2 month pregnant belly).

We relished the wonderful freedom of living in the same space that the dance was to take place. We had one room designated as the shop so Anahata and I could spread out all of our beautiful things.

Two very young Taras, Charley and Sydney, joined us, their maturity in the dance and the practice was impressive. Dressing was a fun affair as we took over Jewel and Bob’s magnificent walk in closet/ bath room/ bedroom.

Joni Haug, Tara Dhatu’s Charity Director drove over from Flagstaff and she led the first half of the mandala and Forrest Parvati the second. I decided to drum, such a luxury to watch the dance in all it’s magnificence.

Joni brought the beautiful statue that His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave us on our first dancing pilgrimage to India. Filled with blessed substances it reminded us of the wonder of our connection with him and His powerful words after watching the Tara Dance, “Tara is our inner air, our inner wind, energy. All energy, all movement entirely depends on air or the inner winds. Even the movement of our consciousness combines with that energy. When we meditate on Tara it means we meditate on energy. This is the practice and understanding of Tara on a deeper level. When you perform the dance of Tara with compassionate motivation, a sense of caring, a sense of concern you will find when the performance is taking place there will be some kind of feeling of blessing from Tara. It will certainly bring a positive atmosphere, a vibration. It does not matter whether the members of the audience are believers or non believers. There will be some kind of vibration, invisible energy.”

We are so grateful for every opportunity we have had to turn the mandala wheel of Tara’s Blessing.

May the power and presence we invoke through this sincere activity bring light and love to the world.

Life is not measured by the number

of breaths we take,

but by the moments

that take our breath away
